Athletics

Spiridon Louis was a Greek runner who won the gold medal in the marathon at the first Olympics of the modern era in 1896 









Thomas Edward Burke, winner of two gold medals in athletics at the Olympic Games of Athens 1896, in the fields of 100 m and 400 m. 





Ciclism

The best cyclist was Frenchman Paul Masson, who won the sprint events and 10,000 metros.11 In the race of 100 kilometers, Masson entered as a pacemaker for his compatriot Léon Flameng. Flameng won the event, after recovering from a fall. 






Gymnastics

Three Germans also won individual titles: Hermann Weingärtner won individual horizontal bar, parallel bars Alfred Flatow individual and Carl Schuhmann, who also competed in wrestling, won the Vault.









Swimming

Alfred Hajós was a swimmer, athlete, footballer and Hungarian architect. It has the distinction of being the first Olympic champion in swimming. 











Tennis

It was the first Olympic tennis champion in modern history, winning gold medals in both singles and doubles at the Olympic Games Athens 1896.
